Clutch Kit Specifications

The FastMotion M57 clutch range is available in standard replacement and heavy-duty performance specifications. The standard replacement kit provides OEM-comparable clutch clamping force and disc friction rating, suitable for stock and mildly tuned M57 applications. The heavy-duty clutch kit uses a higher clamping pressure plate and uprated friction disc material, providing increased torque capacity for performance builds while maintaining drivability in daily or expedition use. The Sachs Racing clutch disc is available for the highest output applications where maximum torque capacity is required.

Flywheel Options

FastMotion supplies M57 flywheels in LUK and Sachs specifications for the common E39, E46, E60 and E90 donor fitments. Vehicle-specific flywheel dimensions vary — the correct flywheel for your build depends on the gearbox being used and the target vehicle platform. ZF 8HP Application Notes

Builds using the ZF 8HP automatic transmission do not use a conventional clutch assembly. The M57 to ZF 8HP conversion uses a flex plate or starter conversion arrangement in place of the flywheel and clutch. FastMotion supplies both the clutch kit for manual gearbox applications and the ZF 8HP-specific flex plate components for automatic conversion builds.

Which clutch specification is recommended for a performance M57 build?

For builds producing up to approximately 300 bhp and 600 Nm, the FastMotion heavy-duty clutch kit provides adequate capacity with acceptable pedal effort. For higher-output builds above 300 bhp, the Sachs Racing disc combined with the heavy-duty pressure plate is the appropriate specification. Is the flywheel reusable after clutch replacement?

A flywheel can be reused if it is within surface finish limits, has no heat cracks and the mounting face is flat within tolerance. Flywheels should be measured and assessed before reuse.
