The BMW M57 Simplified Wiring Kit is a universal harness designed to run your M57 engine independently from the original BMW vehicle. Ideal for off-road builds, custom conversions, and performance projects, this plug-and-play style kit provides all essential connections to integrate the M57 into your custom setup.

Power & Ground Connections
- +12V supply from the main engine relay
Note: Always ensure the relay is controlled by the ECU and remains active for ~5 seconds after ignition is switched off. This setup ensures proper ECU shutdown. - Dedicated ground connection (must be separate from other grounds)
- +12V IGN (terminal 15) and +12V constant (terminal 30)
- Recommendation: Always use an isolated power supply for the ECU and engine wiring harness
Control & Signal Wires
- Wake-up / engine shut-down wire
Note: Used to correctly power up and power down the ECU in sync with the vehicle’s ignition cycle. - Fuel pump relay control
- RPM signal output (calibrated for 6-cylinder dashboards; for 4-cylinder panels, an external signal divider is required)
- (Certain ECU versions) Oil pressure signal and radiator fan control
Communication
- CAN bus network wiring (High and Low)
Universality
This is a universal product, not tied to any specific vehicle platform. Analog signals (such as ignition, RPM, fuel pump) can be connected directly. Where CAN-based information is required, additional adapters can be used.
With this wiring harness, your BMW M57 engine can run in standalone mode, independent of the vehicle systems it is installed in – giving you full freedom and control.
ECU Compatibility
This wiring kit is designed for use with BMW M57 ECUs that have had the EWS (immobilizer) removed. We provide this service separately – see our BMW M57 ECU Rebuild & Conversion product for details.
Additional Notes
- Oil pressure signal and radiator fan control are only available on specific DDE5 (EDC16) ECU versions. As an alternative, you can use a manual oil pressure switch signal and a separate standalone fan controller (available from us as well).
- If required, this wiring kit can be expanded with 6HP and 8HP automatic shifter connections for automatic gearbox projects.
