When pairing a BMW M57 engine with a ZF 8HP transmission, the starter motor location must be re-engineered due to gearbox housing design. In OEM N57 setups, the starter is mounted underneath — but in M57 conversions, clearance must be created on the 8HP case to fit the starter in the correct position.
