The ZF 8HP Automatic Transmission is the central drivetrain component used in modern Mercedes G-Class conversion builds.

Transmission Platform

This 8-speed automatic gearbox is selected for its shift precision, efficiency and ability to handle high torque diesel applications. It transforms vehicle behavior compared to earlier transmission systems.

Variant and Application

The ZF 8HP 70 variant is commonly used in G-Class builds and pairs effectively with Mercedes inline diesel engines such as OM612, OM613 and OM648.

The transmission can be supplied in different configurations:

For used units, servicing is recommended prior to installation using the Oil and Filter Service Kit and inspection or rebuild of the Torque Converter.
